ABUNDANT BLESSINGS

During the months of September, October, and November we will lift up the theme of “Abundant Blessings.” The theme fits nicely with the harvest season and the Scripture lessons. The goal will be to give thanks for God’s abundant blessings and to lift up the spiritual practice of blessing one another and our neighbors. Each Sunday we will develop the spiritual practice of blessing in worship or following worship. The routine moment in worship for the “blessing of the day” will be before the Prayers of the Church.
September 16 Blessing of Students
All students are encouraged to bring their backpacks to worship. Students will be invited to gather in the front of the chancel during the Prayers of the Church and a special Blessing of the Backpacks will be offered during the prayers. Students will be given a small item to remind them that God is with them at their schools.
September 23 Blessing of Educators
All educators will be invited to gather in the front of the chancel during the Prayers of the Church and a special Blessing of Educators will be offered during the prayers. All teachers will get to take home an apple as a reminder of how they bless others and are blessed for service.
September 30 Blessing of Daily Work
All members are invited to bring an item that symbolizes their daily work. This may be a
stethoscope if you are a medical professional, a brief case if you work in an office setting, tool belt if you work in construction, volunteer badge if you are volunteer in the community, car keys or daily planner if you are a stay at home parent, or any other item that represents your daily work. All will be invited to gather in the front of the chancel during the Prayers of the Church and a special Blessing of our Daily Work will be offered during the prayers. Each person will receive an item to remind them of God’s call in their daily lives.
October 7 Blessing of the Animals
All members are invited to bring their pets and/or a picture of their pets to the church veranda on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. All animals should be in a pet carrier or on a leash. A short 20-minute blessing of the animals will take place on the veranda at the church. All are welcome to attend. Invite a friend or neighbor!
