Pastor Carbaugh

Pastor Carbaugh has served Christ Lutheran for 36 years, beginning in July of 1981. A video of his final sermon can be viewed here. A recent article in The Free Lance-Star on Pastor Carbaugh’s retirement can be seen here.

Pastor Carbaugh graduated from VA Tech (Go Hokies!) in 1973 with a degree in Sociology. A Master of Divinity was granted from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in 1977. During that time, Pastor Carbaugh served an internship on Long Island, New York. His first call was to a multiple congregation parish near Woodstock, Virginia. The parish was made up of Mt. Zion and St. Luke congregations.

Pastor Carbaugh has served in a number of capacities in the synod. These include Synod Council, chair of the Worship Committee, youth event planner, and chair of the Outdoor Ministries Committee. Locally, he has served as president of the Mental Health Association and the Ministerial Association, member of the Local Human Rights Committee, and member of the School Health Advisory Board.

Pastor Carbaugh was married on August 14, 1999 to Cindy. Cindy has two children – Caitlin and Kyle. Pastor Carbaugh has two children – Jill and Eric. Both Jill and Eric graduated from UVA. Cindy is originally from Chicago; both Cindy and Pastor Carbaugh grew up in Richmond, VA. Their granddaughter’s name is Amelie.
